  • 1911-1975
  • Born in Tripoli, Libya moved to Damascus when his father took refuge there
  • Studied art in Rome 1935-1939 and specialized in oil painting and sculpture
  • Worked as an art teacher and later as an inspector in Damascus secondary schools
  • In 1960he became the deputy dean of the faculty of fine arts, Damascus
  • Won the first prize in oil painting in 1951
  • Awarded the Syrian Arab medal of excellence , first degree , in 1971
  • One of the avant – garde, his style was neo-classical in oil painting and sculpture, but later sculpture works became more symbolic and modern
  • His works are found in the national museum of Damascus and private collections
