George Ashi

Born in Dahr Safra, 1940

• He completed his high school education in the Holy Land Schools in Aleppo, 1959
• He holds a diploma with distinction from the International School in Beirut
• He studied violin playing at the hands of Professor Michel Constantinides in Lattakia and Michel Borisenko in Aleppo and was a founding member of the National Syndicate in 1960 in Damascus
• Founding member No. “1” of the Art of Photography Club
• Member of the General Union of Syrian Plastic Artists – Member of the General Union of Arab Plastic Artists
• Member of the Society of Authors, Composers and Distributors in Paris as a song poet
• Winner of the First Prize for Folk Song Festival, 1975
• Winner of the second prize at the 1975 Qatar Arab TV Festival for his musical drama “The Magic Feather”
• Winner of the second prize of the Syrian Ministry of Culture in the competition for the lyric composition of the operetta “Khayal Al Azraq” 1967
• Two collections of poetry in the Syrian spoken language (Two Words Zghar 1964) and (Hunger and Love 1970)
• He has songs, dramas, musical dramas and various programs on Damascus and Beirut TV and Radio
• Eleven merit medals from international and Arab bodies and organizations
• Winner of the second prize and a silver medal of the international press photo exhibition “INTERPRESS PHOTO” 1983
• Honor award from the Federation of German Journalists with an invitation to visit Germany for two weeks to participate in the 1984 International Youth Festival
• Ten solo oil painting exhibitions, which are common to most of the annual exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture
